Pregnancy cravings or lack of willpower?

The daily urge to raid the biscuit cupboard is like a devil in my head repeating; "just eat them, you know you want to."  And do I resist the devil? To hell with that.

There are so many reports and articles about how many pregnant women have cravings, which range from ice cream to coal and pickles to peanut butter. Out of the many food cravings, what's the most common craving? Well, I'm not alone with my sweet tooth. As a lot of expectant mums have a sweet tooth and crave ice cream, chocolate, biscuits or sweets... bring on the pic n' mix!

Since I became pregnant WH Smith and Tesco's must have been filling up their white mice and strawberry hearts more times than my hormones have skyrocketed in the last 27 weeks.

Sweets are not my only craving though, as I'm 'mostly loving' a nice cup of Redbush tea with half a packet of biscuits. The bottom of my massive mug is swimming with crumbs (surely a couple of calories saved there?)

The satisfaction is pretty damn good when I'm biting off the soggy, tea-soaked doughy gorgeousness.  Although, the guilt kicks in when I have to clamber up (it's getting harder.. and, frankly, less dainty) from the sofa and walk to the bin with my empty biscuit packet.

Before I discovered I was pregnant I wouldn't even buy a packet of biscuits and place them iin my cupboards. Now they hardly touch the cupboard shelf before the packet's ripped open. In a restaurant I would rather order a starter and a main dish over a dessert every time.

My sister or my hub (both dining partners) would regularly look at the dessert menu and scrape the chinaware clean. Me? I'd rather sip a brandy instead. Says it all.

So, are pregnancy cravings really our bodies crying out for nutrition?! Or does pregnancy make your willpower disappear like your virgin status as you roundedly hobble down the street? How can you call a craving for soap a nutritional need?

Whatever it is... I'm going to have to rein mine in... before I roll down the streets!

Good toes: A chicken salad, my usual lovely muesli with light soya milk and walked at lunch time instead of sitting at desk.
Naughty toes: Three biscuits, a packet of fruit pastilles.
