Walking off the Christmas calories

Being pregnant throughout Christmas and New Year hasn't been an easy ride. In fact, just getting through the first trimester in freezing cold temperatures, surrounded by roast dinners, chocolate, nuts and cakes has been damn hard!

Before finding out I was pregnant at the end of October, I was in the gym VERY regularly and my mum would say that a stick insect had more meat on it. Nice. However, I felt lean, mean and a kick-arse fighting machine. However, I always had time to head to the local wine bar with the hub.

Becoming pregnant was a welcome and much-wanted surprise, although you don't think: 'I'll wait until after Christmas' to get pregnant... it just doesn't happen that easily! Does it ever?

Gym sessions went out of the window as soon as the word 'pregnant' appeared for the fourth time on the pregnancy test. I listened to the advice thrown at me from close loved ones and my doctor about what I should and shouldn't do in the gym... so I just stopped altogether for the peace!

I've also had the workload that would give anyone eyebags and stress... so some nights it was just all too easy to curl up on the sofa with a cuppa in my joggers and dig in to a dessert... or two... or four.

Having my folks over for New Years Eve and to see in 2011 with an amazing three course meal, a stones throw from my house with the hubster, was brilliant! So, yesterday and today I had to do some much-needed EXERCISE!

Walking is a fab form of cardiovascular exercise for pregnant women - it's not too strenuous, but a great way to tone muscles. A fresh (and I mean fresh!) walk around a huge park (and almost getting lost) for more than two hours has been very liberating today. It also gets me back in the mindset to do more...

Watch out parks... a pregnant woman's coming your way soon...
